This month, Career Prep eighth graders at Lewiston Middle School began collaborating on a Dimes 4 Dinners service learning project. In a similar project last year, students raised $583 in just eight days. The money was used to buy Thanksgiving dinners for needy Holy Family and Lewiston Middle School families. Students toured and volunteered at the Good Shepherd Food Bank to gain an understanding of hunger in our community. They shopped for food for the menu they created, and put together food baskets. Students finished this project feeling empowered and knowing they made a difference in their community.
Before a single dime was collected this year, students brainstormed ways to advertise throughout the school, wrote announcements, created banners, chose a menu, decided where to shop, and planned a field trip to the Good Shepherd Food Bank and Lewiston Food Pantry. Finally, students chose where to deliver meals in the Lewiston community on Wednesday, November 26.
