I was upset about a couple of issues in the Nov. 2 Sun Journal.

In the Perspective section was a sign reading, “Election 2003 for Dummies.” This statement also appeared concerning the proposal for slot machines at racetracks: “Take this deal and shove it, we can definitely do better. Reject 3.”

I think they were in bad taste, giving people the impression they would be dummies if they voted yes. Neither shows very tasteful professionalism.

Being of native heritage myself, I was also offended by the racial comments slung during the campaign. This leaves me to believe the racial issue is still very much alive in Maine.

It doesn’t make sense to vote in a racino and vote out a casino. The casino was to be a resort with many recreational facilities, job opportunities and revenue to benefit the state, but scare tactics fogged the minds of many voters.

Credit needs to go to the tribes for trying to make Maine a working state again. If people don’t like gambling, then we should do away with bingo, lotteries, scratch tickets, arcades and anything else that has to do with gambling.

A businessman behind Capital Seven has plans to build a motel, gaming facilities and entertainment complex to accommodate the slots allowed by Question 3. What’s wrong with this picture? What’s fair for one is fair for another.

Former Gov. Kenneth Curtis could see good for the state and the tribes, and it’s too bad others couldn’t have followed suit.
