HARTFORD – Selectman agreed Thursday night that structures started before permits have been approved will be subject to stiff fines starting Feb. 1.

Before a structure is begun, a building permit must be approved and the permit posted. Town ordinance allows for a fine of $100 to $2,500 for failure to obtain the permit.

Code Enforcement Officer Kay Hawkins said construction was at least 30 percent complete on Cooper’s airplane hangar and the application has been approved for completing the hanger.

Animal Control Officer Lianne Bedard said construction has begun on the horse barn on Gurney Hill Road and the state ACO will continue to monitor the progress.

The board approved sending two members of the road committee, Beverly Murphy and Bob Calawa, to a road surface management system workshop at a cost of $40 for both members.

Dave Kraske and John Convey have completed the groundwork for Hartford’s equalization project. Selectman Chairman Scott Swain will look into costs and a time frame for the project.

Selectman Lee Holman reported that Linda Butler from the Department of Environmental Protection was pleased with the progress at the transfer station.

Holman says Hartford will be in full compliance with the license in May of 2004 when the station will reopen.

A public potluck supper will be held ate 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the town hall.

There will be a special selectman’s meeting with the auditor at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the town office.
