BETHEL – Officer Charles Taylor received an unusual criminal mischief complaint on the morning of Nov. 17.

The caller stated that at 11:15 a.m., two motorcycles had just been ridden down the balcony walkway on the second floor of the Bethel House, a former 1960s hotel on Main Street that was converted into low-income units for the elderly.

The complainant said both bikes roared down over the stairs, going from the Elm Street to Main Street side, before disappearing down the road. Knobby-type tread marks left on the edges of some of the stairs led the caller to believe the motorcycles were dirt bikes.

According to Taylor’s report, no description of the bikes or drivers was available because they were going too fast.

Taylor said he spent some time in the area patrolling, but didn’t find any dirt bikes. The investigation remains open.
