MEXICO – Town officials are expected Tuesday to formally ask the Maine Department of Transportation to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Route 2 and Veterans Bridge.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the town office.

Officials from both Rumford and Mexico have said the installation of a signal was needed to improve safety at the intersection. Many have complained about the difficulty of turning left onto Route 2 from the bridge.

In other matters, the board will discuss a public access to police records policy with Chief Jim Theriault, set a joint meeting with the River Valley Technology Center board, and continue a review of personnel policies.

Also on the agenda is a discussion about the possible closure of the north end of Orchard Street during the winter months, appointment of two new members to the Citizens Advisory Board, and an update on the cost to replace doors at the highway garage.

Closed sessions are set to discuss the town manager’s duties and to discuss a possible business venture.
