The renovations include a new emergency area, a new reception area and an MRI suite.

NORWAY – There will be a new look at Stephens Memorial Hospital Tuesday.

There will be a new front door, new reception area, new emergency area, central registration and magnetic resonance imaging suite.

“The opening on Tuesday signifies the completion of phase I of our project,” said hospital communications director Tracey Geary.

A reception for trustees and board members, and leadership donors was held Friday night at the hospital, and an open house for the general public on Saturday.

Phase I started on Oct. 15, 2002, with a groundbreaking ceremony. Geary said that to date, the capital campaign has raised more than $8.8 million and it’s still going strong.

“We are trying to raise more funds for endowment to keep the equipment current,” Geary said.

Phase 2 will see the demolition of the old emergency room and construction of the woman’s imaging center and the endoscopy and minor procedures suite. Plans call for renovations in the surgical services area and the coffee and gift shop. A new meditation-chapel-prayer room will be built.

The new main door will be south of the old one, which had been in use for 25 years. .

“When people enter, they will see right away what is new,” Geary said. “It will be easy to get around. The premise of the project was to focus on patient comfort, privacy and convenience.
