Thank you for your Nov. 19 editorial exposing the disastrous proposed energy bill for what it is.

Thank you also to Sens. Snowe and Collins for standing up for Mainers by speaking out against the bill. They are two of the most prominent leaders in the effort to keep the bill from passing the Senate.

If this energy bill eventually goes through, it would be the worst development for consumers, the environment, taxpayers and public health that we have seen in decades. It does nothing to reduce the air pollution that contributes to millions of asthma attacks each year, decrease the global warming that leads to the erosion of miles of our coast lines, make our energy bills more manageable or decrease our dependency on foreign oil. Instead, it is ridden with one expensive favor after another to President Bush’s major campaign donors.

Sens. Collins and Snowe are doing the right thing by standing up for Mainers and all Americans through their opposition of the bill.
