1919 – 2003

CANTON – Gerard J. Girardin, 84, a resident of Jay, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Victorian Villa Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for one year.

Born in Livermore Falls, July 21, 1919, the son of Pierre and Lea Duguay Girardin, he attended the schools of Livermore Falls.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the African and European Theater. He was one of five brothers that served in the military during World War II.

On June 1, 1946, he married Fernande Filteau at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He worked for International Paper Co., Otis Mill as a machine tender, retiring in 1981.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club and a life member of the VFW, Frank L. Mitchell, Post 3335 of Jay.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years of Jay; two sons, Dr. Gerard M. Girardin of Jay and Richard and his wife, Bonita of Monmouth; three daughters, Marguerite Jones and her husband, Robert of Oregon, Anita Mercier and her husband, Duane of Fayette and Annette Girardin of Jay; a brother, Norman Girardin of Livermore Falls; a sister, Rita Pelletier of Topsham; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, Roger and Paul; four brothers, Val, Roland, Lewis and Joffre Girardin; and three sisters, Ann Breach, Lola Clark, and Marguerite Jean.
