Brenda Davis is walking from Madawaska to Sanford to raise awareness.

LEWISTON – In a continuing effort to build awareness about the problem of hunger in Maine during November, which has been designated as Ending Hunger Month, the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has partnered with Cross Roads Ministries, an Old Town-based hunger agency that serves thousands of Maine people, to hold the second annual Walking Tour.

Brenda Davis, executive director of Cross Roads Ministries of Old Town, is traveling from Madawaska to Sanford during the month, walking approximately 10 to 20 miles a day to bring awareness to the severity of hunger in Maine.

The walk, which is expected to encompass more than 400 miles, brought Davis to Maine Family Federal Credit Union at 555 Sabattus St. on Nov. 13.

Davis is visiting food pantries, hunger organizations and credit unions in each town she visits. At each credit union, she is picking up a contribution from the Maine Credit Unions’ campaign as a way to support her cause.

She began her month-long journey on Nov. 3 in Old Town. In all, the campaign pledged more than $6,000 to the Walking Tour. The walk will conclude with a special ceremony in Old Town on Nov. 25.
