Two men plead guilty to assault charges; a Wilton teen is scheduled

to appear in court.

JAY – A man and a teenager were “severely beaten” in an altercation at a Jay home early Sunday. Two adults and a juvenile were charged in the incident.

The injured 19-year-old Livermore Falls man and 17-year-old Livermore boy went to the Livermore Falls Police Station at about 2:20 a.m. to ask for help, police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.

“They had been severely beaten,” Steward said.

Officers Bruce Benson and Terry Wheeler and dispatcher Stan Wheeler assisted the men until an ambulance could arrive to treat them and take them to a Farmington hospital, Steward said.

Once police realized the alleged incident happened at a Lomie Rivers Road home, Jay officer Eric Goodrow was called in, Steward said.

Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said the 17-year-old had front teeth knocked out and the 19-year-old was knocked to the ground and “beaten severely” in the facial area in the altercation. He said their assailants used their hands and feet to inflict the injuries.

Goodrow interviewed the two victims, called in Livermore Falls police for backup then went to the Jay home, White said. Officers Benson and Maurice Drouin responded to assist about 4:35 a.m., Steward said.

When police got to the home, White said, they saw a male run into the basement and heard a person yelling “Wake up; cops are here.”

That person also allegedly told others in the house to grab weapons, White said. The man in the basement allegedly had a metal pipe in his hand, White added.

Police got permission to enter the home from the property owner, White said. Their response was so quick that the two individuals who were sleeping never had time to wake up or grab a weapon, White said.

Police arrested Benjamin Soho-Girardin, 18, of Wilton and Adam Mears, 18, of Jay and charged them each with aggravated assault, White said. A 17-year-old Wilton boy was also charged with aggravated assault, he said, and taken to a Charleston detention center.

The juvenile is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Tuesday, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews said.

Soho-Girardin and Mears appeared Monday in 12th District Court in Farmington.

Andrews said that after he reviewed police reports, the charges against Soho-Girardin and Mears were dropped from aggravated to misdemeanor assault.

Each pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, and a charge of violation of condition of release in relation to a previous incident, Andrews said, and were sentenced to six months in jail with all but 14 days suspended.

Additionally, each was given one year of probation, Andrews said.
