BETHEL – The annual Christmas with the Masons will be held starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Dr. Moses Mason House. The museum will be decorated and hot mulled cider will be served from the hearth. Candlelight and special harp music will add to the atmosphere.

The public is invited to the free program. At 7:30 p.m. the director, Stanley R. Howe, will show and discuss images made from early 20th century lantern slides of Bethel area scenes from a collection acquired during 2003.

Hymn sing

RUMFORD – There will be a hymn sing at the Rumford United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, on Linnell Street. The program will be a choice of carols or hymns. The public is invited.

Holiday cantata

DIXFIELD – Voices for Christ will present the Christmas Cantata, “Where Love Leads” by Russell Mauldin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Dixfield Congregational Church on High Street. The choir is made up of singers from seven area churches.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – Rumford Area Quilters will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, for a potluck supper at the Rumford United Methodist Church, Linnell Street. Bring your own place setting and food to share. All area quilters are invited.

Children’s ministry

MEXICO – The First Baptist Church will hold its December children’s party from 5:30 to 7:30

p.m. Monday, Dec. 8. All children in the River Valley area are invited. There will be singing and a Bible story. Snacks and drinks will be served after story time. There will also be crafts and games.

The church also has a program, Teen Pulse, for middle and high school teenagers from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday. The teens have games, devotions and snacks. All teens in the River Valley area are welcome. For more information call Pastor Bob or Joy Peters at 364-8850.

WOWS dinner

RUMFORD – The WOWS (Widows or Widowers Sharing) will have a special turkey dinner meeting at noon Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street.

Because this is a catered dinner, reservations must be made for the meal by calling Evelyn at 364-8105 by Dec. 8. The program will be offered by the musical group, The Royers. All are welcome.

Church program

LOVELL – The Locke Mills Union Church will present a Christmas program titled “Noel Celebration,” at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the church, under the direction of church organist and choir director Beverly Melville. The chorus features four-part mixed voices with solo pieces sung by Cheryl Lord, Sondra Withey and Carol Murray.

Prayers dedicated

DIXFIELD – Pastor Stephen Brownell dedicated the weekly prayer meeting on Nov. 11 at the Dixfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church to remembering veterans and families, and bringing special attention to Operation Whitecoat. The operation involved Adventists who volunteered to be infected with a variety of pathogens, facilitating treatments and vaccines for some deadly diseases. Brownell was part of the operation along with Dennis Child, son of Eugene and Anita Child of Dixfield and Colis Blood of Jay.
