1920 – 2003

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Joseph W. Young” Mighty Joe”, 83, of Rumford, passed away Nov. 30, at the Lee Memorial Hospital where he had a winter home.

He was born into a family of 15 children in Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada, on Jan. 9, 1920, a son of Joseph and Martha (Doucette) Young.

His family moved to the United States when he was only a child. Mr. Young served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he became an American Citizen. “Mighty Joe” worked at the Oxford Paper Co., now Meadwestvaco for 38 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and dancing. Mr. Young also enjoyed his grandchildren very much.

He is survived by one daughter, Rose Marie Arsenault (Young) of Portland; three sons, Joseph S. (Steve) Young, Randall L. Young and Robert A. Young all of Mexico; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wives, Mary June Young (Chambers) and Annie Young (Radcliff); and a daughter, Jo Ann Killen (Young).
