BOOTHBAY – Marcus Palmer scored 14 points to pace Mountain Valley to a 55-40 victory over Boothbay in boys’ basketball action Friday.

Boothbay led 24-23 at the half, but the Falcons outscored them by a 2-1 margin for the balance of the contest.

Travis Fergola chipped in with nine points for the Falcons (1-0), while Zack Fergola and Jeremy Childs tallied eight apiece. Mike Norton led the

Seahawks (0-1) with 12 points, while David Sibley tallied eight .

Rockland 80, Oak Hill 40

WALES – Greg Croupi had a dazzling performance with 28 points to spark Rockland to an 80-40 triumph over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Tigers (1-0) received offensive support from Mike Woster with 14 points and Wade Oliver with 11 points. Woster also tallied four of the Tigers’ 10 3-pointers.

Andrew Labbe led the Raiders’ (0-1) with 15 points, including a field goal from beyond the arc.

Maranacook 72,

Camden 69

READFIELD – Senior guard Charlie Calligan scored his 1,000th point as Marancook squeaked by Camden 72-69 in KVAC boys’ basketball action.

Matt St. John scored the game-winner with a 3-pointer, his fifth of the game, with two second to play.

The Black Bears (1-0) saw a 45-39 halftime lead disappear and trailed 59-56 at the end of three quarters.

Calligan and St. John shared game-leading scoring with 20 points apiece.

Tim Stammen led the Windjammers (0-1) with 17 points, while Jamey Davis scored 16 points.

Georges Valley 94, Carrabec 36

NORTH ANSON – Bret Hutchinson drained a game-high 20 points to lead Georges Valley to a 94-36 win over Carrabec in the season opener for both teams.

David Wilgus and A.J. Staples chipped in with 14 points apiece in the lopsided win.

The Cobras (0-1) were led by Josh Turner with a team-high 17 points.

Hall-Dale 75, Dirigo 46

FARMINGDALE – Matt Wheelock drained 21 points and Ben Laflin added 16 to lead Hall-Dale to a 75-46

win over Dirigo.

The Bulldogs (1-0) took a 39-20 lead into the intermission and were never challenged again as they cruised to the one-sided victory.

The Cougars (0-1) were paced by Brandon Berry with 11 points.

Lake Region 76,

Poland 53

NAPLES – Andrew Beal poured in 26 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Lake

Region to a 76-53 win over Poland.

The Lakers (1-0) broke the game open with a 29-12 run in the third period to put the game out of reach.

Gillson (13 points) and James Olberg (11 points) joined Beal’s outburst to notch the victory.

Poland was led by Jon Lecznar with a team-high 12 points.

Wiscasset 85,

Monmouth 61

WISCASSET – Conrad Griffin enjoyed a spectacular evening, scoring 34 points to lift Wiscasset to an 85-61 victory over Monmouth.

The Redskins (1-0) edged Monmouth in each quarter, but used a 31-19 advantage in the final period to pull away for the comfortable win.

Griffin had a double-double, hauling down 10 rebounds to go along with his scoring. He also had five assists and seven steal.

Mark Wade provided most of the Mustang (0-1) offense with 32 points.

Jay 57, Mt. Abram 50

SALEM – Zach Charles scored a game-leading 17 points to lift Jay to a 57-50 win over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Tigers and Roadrunners traded points throughout much of the nip-and-tuck contest, but Jay expanded on a tight three-point margin in the final frame to provide a little distance down the stretch.

Brad Loon chipped in with 12 points, while Marc Kelvey tallied 10. Jordan Norton led the

Roadrunners with 11 points, including three treys.

Girls’ basketball
Rockland 67, Oak Hill 32

ROCKLAND – Caitlyn Hynes ppoured in 18 points to power Rockland to a 67-32 win over Oak Hill in KVAC basketball action Friday evening.

Allie Todd chipped in with 11 points as the Tigers (1-0 built an insurmountable 41-6 lead at the end of the first half and cruised to the victory.

Amber Chapman and Amy Quinlan combined for 17 points for the Raiders (0-1).
