NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Maine scored two goals in the final minute of the first

period en route to a 3-1 win over Merrimack on Friday night.

Colin Shields’ goal at 19:15 of the first period and Jon Jankus’ goal 34 seconds later gave the Black Bears (11-2-1, 6-2-1 Hockey East) a commanding 3-0 lead at the first intermission.

Tim Reidy pulled Merrimack (4-9-3, 1-6-3) within 3-1 at 1:14 of the third period, but Maine goalie Jimmy Howard stopped 15 shots in the period to help Maine hang on.

Todd Jackson gave the Black Bears a 1-0 lead with a goal at 9:03 of the first period.

Colby 5, Skidmore 0

WATERVILLE – Nick Bayley tallied his fifth goal of

the season and Todd O’Hara added a pair of assists to

lead Colby College to a 5-0 win over Skidmore College in men’s hockey action Friday evening at Alfond Arena.

Nate Stanglen, Jake Bayley, Patrick Rutherford, and Joel Morash each chipped in with a goal.

Ben Grandjean registered the shutout, making 15 saves in his first collegiate start.

Wisconsin-Green Bay 73

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Melissa Heon exploded for 18 points to lift the University of Maine to a 76-73 triumph Friday over Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The Black Bears took a 41-37 lead into the intermission and withstood a second-half surge to register the victory.

Kim Corbitt chipped in

with 15 points while Monica Pearson and Bracey Baker added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Natalie Yudt scored a game-high 22 points for Wisconsin-Green Bay.
