1926 – 2003

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Frederick F. “Fred” Theberge, 77, of Wilmarth Street, Attleboro, died Thursday, Dec. 4, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Priscilla Carol Parmenter Theberge to whom he was married on April 4, 1959.

Born in Rumford on March 23, 1926, he was a son of the late Ethelbert and Blanche Fortin Theberge. He was raised and educated in Lewiston, and lived in Portland as a young man prior to moving to Attleboro 44 years ago.

He was employed as the baker for Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro from 1958 to 1976, where he was well known for his excellent pastries and his one-man pie baking marathons during the holiday seasons. He produced hundreds of pies from scratch, fluting the edges by hand with the speed and precision of a machine.

In 1976, he became the food service director at the Pawtucket Institute for Heatlh Services, a position he held until his retirement in 1989.

His legacy will be one of a person of great integrity with a strong work ethic which enabled him to become an admirable self-made man.

He was thought of as a loyal husband and dedicated father devout in his duties to his family.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he leaves a son, Frederick C. Theberge of Taunton; a daughter, Cynthia Sanford of Attleborro, Mass.; a sister, Margaret Theberge of Lewiston; two brothers, Gerard Theberge of Lewiston, and Remy Theberge of Attleboro, Mass.; two granddaughters, Clarissa Sanford and Sarabeth Sanford, both of Attleboro, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
