1909 – 2003

BEALCTON, Va. – Louisa Tupper Hahn died Friday, Dec. 5, at Blue Ridge Christian Home, Bealcton, Va.

Born in Durham on March 10, 1909, she was the daughter of Ernest and Sarah Tupper. She graduated from Lisbon Falls High School in 1928, and received a teaching certificate from Gorham Normal School. She also received a Masters Degree from the University of Connecticut. She taught elementary school – seven years in Maine, 27 years in Connecticut and three years in Rhode Island – for a total of 37 years in public education.

She was a member of the NEA-CEA and SEA. She was a board member of the Tupper Family Association of America and a 27-year member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, an honorary sorority of women educators. She served as president three years in the Stonington-Groton area, three years as Connecticut State President of ADK, and transferred to the Venice-Sarasota ADK Chapter of Retired Teachers. She was also past president of Quota Club of Westerly, R.I.

She married Jerome Shea of Pawcatuck, Conn. in 1940 and lived in Pawcatuck for 52 years. After his death in 1980, she married Col. Ellsworth Hahn in 1986. He predeceased her in 2000.

She is survived by two brothers, Lionel Tupper of Lisbon Falls, and Jackson Tupper of Durham; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by four sisters and two brothers.
