FARMINGTON – The registration deadline and an introductory skills clinic for Farmington Recreation Department’s 24th season of Junior Pro Basketball will take place Saturday, Dec. 13, in the gymnasium of the Farmington Community Center.

Division 2, grades five and six, will meet from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and Division 1, grades three and four, will meet from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 13 and 20 and Jan. 3 only.

Girls and boys from grades three through six are eligible to take part in the Farmington Recreation Department’s annual instructional basketball program, the Junior Pro basketball program.

Players will be separated into two divisions consisting of both girls and boys on the same team to promote balanced competition and equal play opportunity. Aaron Keegan will serve as director of the program this season.

League action will take place from Dec. 13 through the championship game on Feb. 21. Regular season games are scheduled at the following times, Division 2, starting times are 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. while Division I starting times are 12:15 and 1:30 p.m.

A standard registration fee of $20 is charged to all players. First year players and those not possessing a Youth Sports Team Jersey may order one by the registration deadline. The jersey is sold by the Recreation Department for $20 and takes at least three to four weeks of delivery time to arrive.

The only other fee is a nonresident fee of $5 that applies to those whose parents do not pay property taxes to the town of Farmington.

A scholarship, in memory of the department’s 1990 Boys Basketball Travel Team Coach Alex Strozier, will continue this season.

Two dollars from every Junior Pro Basketball registration fee will be devoted to this gesture and the total will be awarded to a deserving volunteer coach in this program.

Registration forms are available in the Recreation Department office at the Farmington Community Center.

For information about this program, phone the Farmington Recreation Department from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 778-3464 or 778-3444.
