1941-2003

LEWISTON – Clayton F. Morse, 62, a resident of Pearl Street in Livermore Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 6 at CMMC, surrounded by his family and friends following a long illness.

He was born on March 17, 1941 in Jay, the son of Fred B. and Melvina Ellen Welch Morse. Clayton attended the schools of Livermore Falls. On May 27, 1961 he married Bertha M. Stewart at the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls. Clayton owned and operated Morse Trucking Co. for over 40 years. Being a dedicated worker, he enjoyed doing business with the townspeople. He also had worked for years at Livermore Shoe Company in Livermore Falls, along with his truck route, before retiring due to ill health in 1994.

He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends. When the family got together on Friday evenings, they enjoyed playing his favorite card game, 63, and also playing dice. He and his wife always looked forward to camping in Eustis with their special friends Jerry and Miriam Whitney. He was a former member of the Lane-Dube AmVets, Post #33 of Jay. In his spare time he enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Red Sox and playing scratch tickets. He is survived by: his wife of 42 years of Livermore Falls; two sons, Rick of Livermore Falls and Clayton J. and his wife, Tammy, of Penn.; two daughters, Kim Townsend of Livermore Falls and Lisa Miniutti and her husband, Ryan, of Cornish; a brother, Phillip Morse of Andover; four sisters and their husbands, Beverly and Joe Hlista of New Jersey, Phyllis and Lee Pease of Wilton, Lorraine and Joe Merchant of Newport, Doris and Bill Merchant of Livermore Falls; five grandchildren, Marcy, Smalley and Forrest Morse, and Brooke, Courtney, and Adriana Miniutti. He will also be missed by his special friend Gerri Vadnais whom he called “Mom.”
