NORTH CHESTERVILLE – Alfred LaPlante, 68, of North Chesterville, died Sunday evening, Dec. 7, 2003, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born in Keene, N.H., on March 18, 1935, a son of the late Herbert F. Meader Sr. and Alice E. LaPlante. He married the former Beverly Wright Oct. 20, 1990 at North Chesterville.

He worked as a mill wright for Frary Wood Turning in Dryden, Forster Mfg. Co. in Wilton and operated overhead crane for the former Scott Paper Co. until his retirement nine years ago. He enjoyed camping, fishing, four-wheeling and teasing people.

Mr. LaPlante is survived by: his wife of 13 years of North Chesterville; two sons, Herbert Stevens of North Chesterville and Lawrence LaPlante and his wife, Linda, of Jay; three daughters, Barbara Litalien and her husband, Rene, of East Jay, Roxanne Archer and her husband, Douglas, of West New Portland, Leona Bryant and her husband, Scott, of Dryden; three stepsons, Robert Dunham of North Jay, Clayton Stanley and his wife, Debra, of Chesterville, Arthur Stanley and his wife, Roselee, of North Jay; two stepdaughters, Barbara Baker and her husband, Bob, of North Jay and Linda Carlton on Mechanic Falls; a mother-in-law, Edna Wright of North Jay; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Cushman of Temple and Violet Cushman of Chesterville; four brothers, Norman Meader of Canton, Almond Meader of Dixfield, Raymond Meader of Dixfield and Herbert Meader, Jr. of Tennessee.

In addition to his parents he is predeceased by: his first wife, Louisa LaPlante on Jan. 12, 1990; and four brothers, David, Fred, Bob and Edward Meader.
