Eastgate Christian Academy

In March, Eastgate Christian Academy’s French II began to build a replica of the Eiffel Tower using toothpicks, Their teacher purchased the supplies, and the class began to measure, glue and cut. Working with a 1/202 ratio of the 1,063 foot tall original, they concluded toothpicks would not be sturdy enough, using popsicle sticks and bamboo sticks instead. The platforms were cardboard. For several months they worked on the project, but progress slowed and time ran out.

I took the Eiffel Tower home and finish it over the summer. After many hours of work, the project is now complete and an addition to the decor of our French classroom, “I think it is important to bring culture into the classroom,” stated Mrs. Bartholomae, Eastgate Christian Academy’s French teacher, “as well as another dimension of learning.”
