RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board voted overwhelmingly to extend Superintendent James Hodgkin’s contract through school year 2005-2006.

The board met in a closed session Monday night to act on the contract and to set up the process for the superintendent’s evaluation.

Hodgkin said Wednesday that his salary was boosted about 2 percent from $78,000 this year to $80,000 for school year 2004-2005. Benefits will remain the same. He and the board will negotiate the salary for 2005-2006 next year.

“I’m satisfied. We have a good, positive relationship,” he said.

The vote to extend the contract and increase the salary was 12-1, with Rumford representative Mary Hickey casting the dissenting vote.

Because Hodgkin is new, having been on the job only since August, a formal evaluation will be conducted in May 2004. However, an informal evaluation will take place in closed session Monday night following the regular board meeting. Thereafter, the annual evaluation, as well as salary negotiation, will be conducted each December.
