FARMINGTON – Because last weekend’s snowstorm prevented many ticket holders from seeing “Winged Migration” on Sunday, the Narrow Gauge Cinema will show it again this weekend.

The showings will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14. Tickets sold for last Sunday’s shows will be honored at either of the showings, and tickets will also be available at the door for $5.

These film showings benefit the Western Maine Audubon Society. Proceeds will be used to support Western Maine Audubon’s programs, field trips and other activities.

“For 80 million years,” says Jacques Perrin, the director of this film, “birds have ruled the skies, seas, and earth. Each spring, they fly vast distances. Each fall, they fly back on the same routes. This film is the result of four years following their amazing odysseys, in the northern hemisphere and then the south, species by species, flying over seas and continents.”

The filmmakers used airplanes, gliders, helicopters and balloons to fly alongside, above, below and in front of their subjects. They also used remote-controlled model gliders and helicopters and special cameras to film migrating birds over landscapes and on sites where the use of manned aircraft would have been impossible.

The movies includes a flock of snow geese on their flight south from the high Arctic to the Gulf Coast and European white storks heading for Africa by way of Spain or Turkey. The landscapes the birds traverse are as spectacular as the birds themselves.
