NEW GLOUCESTER – A woman whose pickup skidded on a patch of ice Saturday died from injuries she suffered from being thrown from the truck, police said Sunday.
Patricia Suitor, 59, of Merrill was driving alone southbound on Route 100 at about 11 a.m. when she lost control of her 1993 Ford Ranger while trying to pass another vehicle.
The truck slid into a ditch bordering the northbound lane. Merrill, who was not wearing a seat belt, smashed through the passenger window, said Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Stephen Gorham. No airbags deployed, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gorham said he believed speed was a “contributing factor” in the single-vehicle accident.
