JAY – Jay firefighters plan to show town officials Monday why they need a new truck and what they’re looking for in one.

They plan to bring a 1989 Pierce truck to the selectmen’s meeting to show the board, Budget Committee and Town Manager Ruth Marden the type of truck they’ve picked out and to explain why they have chosen this particular manufacturer.

The truck is expected to be in the lot on view at 5:30 p.m. before the selectmen’s meeting at 6 p.m. at the Community Building.

The department is encouraging questions at the viewing.

Firefighters want to replace Engine No. 3, which is nearly 25 years old, with a front line Pierce truck that would be custom built and carry foam to fight fires. It would also be equipped with lighting and carry rescue gear.

Voters rejected buying a new truck last year. Firefighters plan to put buying and financing the new truck before voters in April.

The department would need to raise or borrow about $200,000 for the $389,095 truck with the remainder to come from a reserve account.
