1923 – 2003
DURHAM – George W. Whitley Sr., 80, of Davis Road, Durham passed away at his residence Dec. 14.
He was born in Plymouth, Sept. 15, 1923, a son of William and Augusta (Stevens) Whitley.
He worked for the State of Maine transportation for 10 years and later worked at Freeport Shoe and Eastland Shoe factories for 30 years. Lastly he had worked at the Freeport Recycling Center for the past 20 years.
He enjoyed working in the woods, listening to music and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Whitley Sr. is survived by two daughters, Pauline Whitley of Brunswick, Laurie St. Amand and husband David of Durham; one son, George W. Whitley Jr. and wife Judith of Brunswick; granddaughter, Melissa Welch and husband Joshua of Durham; three grandsons, Ben Huard, Josh Whitley and David St. Amand; three great-granddaughters, Brianna and Aleisha Welch and Melana Huard.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ethelyn; and his granddaughter, Jessica Huard.
