1924 – 2003

MONMOUTH – Gordon C. McKenney, 79, a resident of Cobbossee Road, Monmouth, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

He was born in Monmouth on Nov. 13, 1924, the son of Elton F. and Susie Carr McKenney. He was a 1944 graduate of Monmouth Academy. On Dec. 6, 1948, he married Nita Palleschi in Wayne. She passed away on Feb. 20, 1999.

He was self-employed as a poultry farmer, later working at the Bonifide Mill in Winthrop and for Chick Orchards, retiring in 1989. He was a 40-year member of the Monmouth Fire Department, a member and past Master of the Monmouth Grange and a member of the Masons.

He also enjoyed his time as a Monmouth Little League Coach. In his spare time, he looked forward to gardening, snowmobiling and hunting and especially spending time with his grandson.

He is survived by his son, James D. and his wife Karen of East Monmouth; a brother, Harland McKenney and his wife Pauline of Lisbon; a grandson, Zachary J. of East Monmouth.

He was predeceased by a son, Dennis G. McKenney in 1964.
