1912 – 2003

SOUTH PARIS – Oran D. Young, Sr., 91, of Oxford, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Maine Veterans Home.

Born in Oxford, Sept. 27, 1912, the son of Lewis K. and Lilly May Bressette, he attended Otisfield and Oxford schools.

He had been employed at Robinson Manufacturing for 42 years, where he had been a weaver as well as doing various other jobs within the mill. He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World War II.

He married Esther Eveline Walcott on Dec. 20, 1940 and she died Nov. 7, 1979. He was a loving father who worked hard all of his life. He loved to hunt and fish. In later years he enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, yodeling and listening to music at the Veterans Home. He was a member of the Grace Fellowship Church in Oxford, the Oxford American Legion and the V.F.W.

Survivors include three sons, Oran Jr. and his wife, Charlene of Norway, Roger and his wife, Elizabeth of Greenville and Richard and his wife, Monique of Oxford; two daughters, Donna Garrett and her husband, Wayne of Florida, and Mary Barker of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren that thought fondly of him.

He was predeceased by his wife, Esther; three sisters; and two brothers.
