1915 – 2003

LEWISTON – Fernande C. Bissonette, 88, a resident of 124 Bartlett St., Lewiston died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 16, peacefully after a short illness at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born in St. Hyacinth, P.Q., Nov. 25, 1915, the daughter of Alphonse and Albina (Prefontaine) Cote. She moved to Maine at a young age and met and married Edward Bissonette in 1936. She had worked in the local shoe industry until her retirement.

She was a quarter master for the Pine Tree Warriors as well as an avid traveler with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her recent trip to Foxwoods where she loved dancing and listening to the music of the Motown group called “Souled Out.”

“Fern” was able to put a smile on anyone’s face. She was young at heart, and lived her life to the fullest. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Bissonette and his wife, Pauline, Raymond Bissonette and his wife, Marianne all of Lewiston; two daughters, Susan Goodwin and her husband, Jay of Auburn, Lucille Martin and her husband, Jim of Lewiston; three brothers, Leonard, Normand, and Bertrand Cote all of Auburn; four sisters, Rita Binette of Auburn, Florence Hooper of Machias, Lucille Arel of Auburn, and Marguerite St. Onge of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Bissonette; and three brothers, Jean-Paul, Ivan, and Paul Cote.
