Dear Sun Spots: Beacon Hospice and Palliative Care, 55 Lisbon St., Suite 2600, Lewiston, is seeking to train volunteers to work with patients and families. Beacon offers free, 21-hour training program that explores the volunteer hospice experience and focuses on a wide range of topics including hospice history, pain recognition and management, spirituality, family dynamics, communication, bereavement and volunteer rights and responsibilities.

Both day and evening trainings are available and consist of 3-hour sessions offered once weekly for seven weeks. Upon completion of the program, participants receive a volunteer certificate and are ready to begin work as Beacon Hospice volunteers.
