Their decision on the contract came after a performance review.

LISBON – Selectmen have authorized Town Manager Curtis Lunt to begin negotiations for a new, longer contract with Earthech Inc., the firm that operates the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

Their decision came after a performance review Tuesday night indicating “significant improvement” in the first six months of a one-year contract that began July 1.

In other business:

• Following a review of 2002 bond proceed expenditures, selectmen agreed to a request by fire Chief P. Sean Galipeau to spend $7,800 of the remaining $23,000 to equip a fire truck.

• Two parcels were designated as Pine Tree Zones, the 17-acre former U.S. Gypsum Co., later owned by the Masonite Corp. in Lisbon Falls, that was recently purchased by Knight Celotex; and a 167-acre parcel owned by Dingley Press located behind the Lisbon Credit Union. The designations will have to be approved by voters at the annual town meeting in May.

• A public hearing on a rate increase for basic cable television services and equipment being proposed by Adelphia drew no comment. The proposed change, which would go into effect on April 1, 2004, increases the basic rate from $7.40 to $9.98.

• Selectmen are considering the adoption of an ordinance to regulate use of the town parking lot behind the post office building in Lisbon Falls. The ordinance will address overnight parking, among other things.

• Following a hearing, selectmen officially removed Steve Warren from the Board of Appeals, an appointive position, due to non-attendance. Dan Goyette was appointed as a regular member of the Planning Board until 2006.

• Selectmen approved closing the town office on the day after Christmas, Friday, Dec. 26, which will give employees a four-day holiday.
