LISBON – A special committee is reviewing the town’s current form of government, which includes town meetings, selectmen and a town manager.
The Government Review Committee is conducting a survey about participation and views on town meeting. Survey sheets may be picked up at the town office. When completed, they may be dropped off in a collection box at the town office or in either town library, or they can be mailed to the Town Office at 300 Lisbon St.
Survey questions include:
• Attendance at town meetings: if you have not attended in the last three years, why.
• Whether the town should continue to hold a town meeting to adopt budgets and ordinances.
•Whether you favor continuing to hold town meetings, when they should be held.
• Whether election of selectmen should continue to be held on a Saturday in May; if not, when.
• If the town budget was adopted by a series of referendum votes, would you be more inclined to participate in the budget process.
• Is the current five-member board of selectmen the right size.
• Are you interested in a change in town government; if so, what kind of government would you like: representative town meeting like Sanford, selectmen with referendum, town council with no town meeting or other.
