LEWISTON – Photos depicting scenes from holidays past are among the Franco-American Heritage Collection at Lewiston-Auburn College.
In one photo workers from the spinning Room at Bates Mill are pictured at a holiday gathering in 1948.
For two decades, Fernand Despins, a well-known community leader, mayor and judge, was the official Santa at the Healy Asylum, an orphanage for boys located on Ash Street. He is pictured in another photo sporting his Red Devils Snowshoe Club uniform as part of his Santa suit.
Anyone who is able to identify people in the photos is encouraged to contact the Franco-American Heritage Collection at 753-6545.
These and many other photos may be viewed at the collection located at Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St. It is open to the public Mondays and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
