FARMINGTON – Farmington Recreation Department will offer its 11th season of Prep Basketball this winter for boys and girls in grade 2 or who are 7 years old. The registration deadlines are Tuesday, Jan. 6, for beginners and Thursday, Jan. 8, for advanced.

The entry level basketball program introduces youngsters to the sport in a non-competitive format. Each child will learn rules and fundamental skills of the sport through drills, games, contests and controlled scrimmages. Players will come away from the program with a basic understanding and working knowledge of the game.

Beginner classes start at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6; advanced classes start at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 8. The 6-week program is held in the Farmington Community Center gym.

Aaron Keegan will direct Prep Basketball with UMF junior Erin LaRochelle serving as assistant director.

Players will use the most appropriate youth-size basketballs and the rims at the Community Center gymnasium will be set at 8 feet to encourage shooting success.

The registration fee is $20. A $5 non-resident fee is charged to those who do not live in Farmington, Farmington Falls, West Farmington or Fairbanks or whose parents do not pay property taxes to Farmington.

A souvenir prep basketball program T-shirt will be provided to each participant.

Registration forms are available at the Recreation Department office in the Farmington Community Center at 127 Middle St. For more information, contact Farmington Recreation Director Steve Shible at 778-3464.
