PORTLAND – Maxine Hopkinson of 9 Spring St., Westbrook, died Christmas morning, Dec. 25, in Portland.

Born in Westbrook, the daughter Stephen F. and Mary Jane Bacon Hopkinson, she graduated from Westbrook High School, the Salutatorian of her class in 1930.

Ms. Hopkinson received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and Greek from Bates College in 1934. She taught mathematics at Bridge Academy in Dresden and Waterville and Brunswick High schools.

She later worked for the Social Security Administration in Washington, Baltimore, Lewiston and Boston. After retiring as a federal administrator, she worked for Maine Surgical Supply in Portland.

She was a member of the Westbrook Warren Congregational Church.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Jane M. Bernstein.
