RUMFORDLawrence “Larry” J. Curato, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Rumford Hospital, Rumford. A life long resident of the area, he resided on Rt. 108 in Smithcrossing, Rumford.

He was born in Rumford, on Nov. 18, 1925, one of 12 children of Joseph and Concetta (Peparato) Curato, Sr., and had attended schools in Rumford and Portland.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Army as a Technician Third Grade, 994th Ordinance Heavy Equipment Maintenance Company from Feb. 1944 to May 1946 including the European African Middle Eastern Theater.

Larry was employed as a service manager for Dead River Oil Company in Rumford for many years until retirement. He was also a licensed Master Electrician, a Journeyman Plumber, and a licensed Fuel Burner Technician.

He was a Communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church, Life Member of Rumford Maine Lodge # 862, B.P.O.E., Member Napoleon Ouellette Post # 24, American Legion and Robert Shand Post # 1641, V.F.W., Member of Gorizia Lodge # 467, Sons of Italy.

He was married in Rumford, on Dec. 26, 1947, to the former Adelia “Delia” Meisner who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include: three sons Michael Dane Curato and wife, Marie, of Rumford, Bruce Curato of Georgetown, Mass., Randy Curato and wife, Mary Pat, of Wheaton, Ill.; two daughters Andrea Goff and husband, Del, of Wilmington, Del., and Carla Beaudoin and husband, Marc, of Casco; nine grandchildren, Tracy, Cara, Lani, Anna and Julia Curato, Bailey Kung, Maria and Cory Beaudoin and Matt Goff; four sisters, Antoinette Bill and husband Tom of Old Orchard Beach, Esther Drouin and Rose Buccina of Rumford, and Philomena Brown of Gorham; two brothers Frank “Carm” Curato and wife Anita of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Joseph Curato, Jr. and wife Mickey of Randolph.

He was pre-deceased by parents, brothers Pat, Vincenzo, Dominic and John Curato and a sister Alice Sullivan.
