This is in response to the letter written by Mary and Robert Van Nest (Dec. 23).

Perhaps they should look at their son as being the hero he is.

This will be our second Christmas without our son, a Marine. Yes, in our eyes he is a bigger hero then we will ever be because he had the same courage as the Van Nests’ son and volunteered for the armed services of his own free will.

We believe that our president has our country’s best interest at heart and, in this time of war, find supporting our troops the right thing to do, not because of our son, but because we are a great nation willing to help those that might need our help.

Duane and Fran Dumont,

Winthrop
