FARMINGTON – Falyn Reilly Harriman snuggled in her mother’s arms while her daddy looked on Friday. The newborn slept through camera flashes and voices of those in the hospital room.

When the 7-pound, 6.5-ounce, 19 inches long Falyn made her way into the world at 6:51 New Year’s night, she marked a couple of firsts.

She is the first child for Susan and Matthew Harriman of Fairfield. She’s also the first baby born in 2004 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

For the latter, Falyn received a wagon full of gifts donated by area merchants.

Falyn also put the girls one ahead of the boys for grandparents Anne and Ronald Gerrish of Dixfield. Counting Falyn, the couple now has four grandsons and five granddaughters. Falyn’s paternal grandparents are Linda and Dennis Harriman of Randolph.

Susan Harriman said she was tired Friday as she held her baby. The newborn was in a pale pink outfit and wrapped in a sea green, white and pink striped blanket with an off-white hat with a big pom-pom perched on her head. The hat covered her full head of black hair.

Falyn was a week overdue, her mother said.

The couple knew they were having a girl and had a name picked out.

Susan knew a little girl named Falyn years ago and liked the name.

Reilly, Matthew said, came out of a baby name book.

They liked it.

Labor went pretty quickly, Susan said.

Susan’s mother, Anne, said the labor pains came fast and furious once they started.

“We’ll never forget her birthday, not that we would, but it will make it easier for me to remember,” Matthew said.
