RUMFORD – Junior center Jarod Oldham scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lift Mountain Valley to a 63-50 win over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Marcus Palmer connected for four field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, to tally 10 points, while Matt McCann and Issac Stickney chipped in with nine apiece for the Falcons (7-0).

Sophomore guard Sean Caddigan provided most of the offense for the Rebels (5-2) with 24 points, including four field goals from beyond the arc.

Winthrop 75,

Wiscasset 61

WINTHROP – Matt McCarthy tickled the twine for 31 points, including three 3-pointers, to send Winthrop to a 75-61 win over Wiscasset in boys’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Ramblers (4-3) overcame a 34-32 halftime deficit with a 21-10 run in the third quarter behind McCarthy, Mike Gingrass, and Max Beaureguard, who chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively, to pull ahead of the Redskins.

Ben Stoodley (15 points), and Conrad Griffin (12 points) paced Wiscasset.

Poland 43, Freeport 30

POLAND – Alex Smith drained 10 points to lead Poland to a 43-30 win over Freeport in WMC basketball action Saturday evening.

The Knghts (3-5) took a 24-16 lead into the intermission and did not look back as they gained their third win of the season.

The Falcons (3-5) Tom Rolfson and Kevin Gridley combined for 12 points in the loss.

Madison 69,

Monmouth 45

MONMOUTH – Senior center Randy McMullen pounded out 28 points and hauled down 15 rebounds to power Madison to a 69-45 win over Monmouth in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs (3-3) went on a 22-8 tear in the first quarter to arrest any defensive effort by Monmouth and capitalized on that momentum throughout the contest. Allen Berry contributed 10 points for Madison.

Mark Wade led the Mustangs (0-7) with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Myles Butler recorded eight points.

Cape Elizabeth 9,

Win-Dale 3

PORTLAND – Paul Kierstead found the back of the net converting a feed from Dan Rautenberg at 5:39 of the second period for the game winning goal to lift Cape Elizabeth to a 9-3 win over WinDale in boys’ hockey action Saturday evening at the Portland Ice Arena.

Rautenberg scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Capers (6-0) attack.

The Icedogs (2-3) were paced by Adam Beal with a pair of goals and an assist, while Sam Frost added a goal with assists from Beal and Nate Ferchette.
