FARMINGTON – A public reception will be held to honor the service given by Maureen Hickey and Patricia Tripp to Franklin County Head Start and Child Care. It will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Holman House at 227 Main St. Hickey and Tripp, two longtime employees of Franklin County Head Start, are leaving their positions in early January. Together, they have more than 50 years of service to young children and their families in Franklin County. Friends, co-workers and community members are being invited to stop by the open house. Donations for a gift for each will be accepted.

Archival program

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley Chapter of the Maine Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Farmington Public Library. For the program, chapter member Cheryl Patten will speak about “What is, Whys and Hows of Archival Preservation.” Anyone with an interest in genealogy is welcome to attend.

Square dance

WILTON – Friendship Squares Dance Club will host a dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Cushing School. The caller will be Lee Kennedy, caller and teacher for the Monday night workshops. The round dance cuer will be Scott Williams. The public is welcome to attend.

Task force to meet

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will hold its annual directors meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at its conference room at 113 Church St. Community members are invited to attend. The task force is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to helping children and families in Franklin County. People can call Mary or Jaylene at 778-6960 if they plan to attend.

Planning for college

WILTON – The Maine Educational Opportunity Center offers adults free workshops in college planning, financial aid, career decision making and study skills. An interactive workshop, “MEOC 101: The Essentials of College Planning,” will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the East Wilton CareerCenter. Preregistration is required. Self-esteem workshop

FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will offer a six-week self-esteem class from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 27 and ending March 9, at 108 Perham St. Participants will learn ways to challenge old, destructive beliefs and nourish positive thoughts and feelings about themselves. This supportive workshop will give them the tools to start living a rich and rewarding life. There is no fee for participants.
