1907 – 2004

LEWISTON – Mae D. Masselli, 96, of East Avenue, Lewiston died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

She was born June 18, 1907, in Fairfield, the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Jennie Mae (York) Matthieu. She was educated in the Waterville area where she graduated high school. She came to Lewiston in 1927, and worked in local shoe factories. She was married to Emile Masselli on April 19, 1938, and worked together at Masselli Bros. Freezer Locker Plant located in Lewiston.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, life-member of the Rosary Solidarity, member of Daughters of Isabella since 1943, and past president of the Paisanets of the Son’s of Italy having served two terms at that post.

She was also a life-member of the Patroness’s of St. Mary’s Hospital, member of the Woman’s Hospital Association of Central Maine General Hospital and at one time served as the director of Social Service Associates of Lewiston and Auburn. She was a member of Horizon 55 and Covenant 50. She was active in all social walks of life.

She was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, and being a homemaker. She and her husband Emile celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 19, 1988, and their 55th in 1993.

She is survived by her son, Charles Masselli and his wife Valerie of Lewiston; three grandsons, Charles Masselli Jr. of Lisbon, David Masselli and his wife Heidi of Auburn, and Daniel Masselli and wife Kathleen of Jay; a stepgrandson, Christopher Larson currently stationed in Iraq; stepgranddaughter, Nicole Higginbotham and husband Byron of Texas; five great-grandsons, Ethan Masselli of Lisbon, Lucas and Easton Masselli of Auburn, Kamden Masselli of Jay, and Trenton Higginbotham of Texas; and several neices, nephews, and cousins.
