1922 – 2004

BRUNSWICK – Roberta L. Coy, 81, of Royalsborough Road, Durham, died Monday, Jan. 5, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center.

Born in Brunswick, Aug. 18, 1922, a daughter of Henry Byron and Agnes Sheppard Hammond, she attended Brunswick schools.

She worked at Eastland Shoe until her retirement in 1985. Her favorite pastimes were playing beano and watching the Boston Red Sox on television. She married Gilbert Coy Sr. in July 1959.

Survivors include her husband, Gilbert G. Coy Sr. of Durham; one son, Gilbert Coy III of Durham; three daughters, Robin Peavey of Monson and Sandra Bodge and her husband, Michael of Richmond and Eunice Baize and her husband, Donald of Linton, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Bruce and Richard Ramsey of Lewiston, Randy Ramsey Sr. of New Hampshire, Bonnie Ramsey of Florida, Kenneth and Jeffery Baize of Indiana, Steven M. Bodge of Bar Harbor and Patricia Mann of Freeport; 13 great-grandchildren, Bruce J., Trisha, Heather, Randy Jr., Jessica, Kara, Christy, Stacy, Scott, Richelle, Dylan, Caitlin and Kasaya; six stepgreat-grandchildren, Donald Jr. and Keith, Angelique, Adrian, Raven and Nicholas; four great-great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Brianna, Jasmin and Dylan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; five brothers, Harold, Raymond, Irwin, Henry B. Jr. and Frederick Hammond; two sisters, Joan Hutchins and Frances McKinny; three sons, Ralph Jr. and Scott McIntosh and Gilbert Coy Jr.; one grandson, Dennis Ramsey; one great-great-granddaughter, Kayla Ramsey; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Florence Coy; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Freve.
