RUMFORD – Bernice Bromberg, 73, of 34 Seaview Avenue, Fairhaven, Mass., a retired beautician and dog groomer, died Thursday, Jan. 8, at home.

She was the wife of Martin Bromberg. Born in New Bedford, Mass., a daughter of the late Samuel and Annie (Lansky) Adamsky, she had lived in New Bedford most of her life until moving to Fairhaven eight years ago. She was the owner/operator of the former B-Lovely Beauty Salon for six years and the former Puppy Parlor for 10 years, retiring 23 years ago. Both shops were in New Bedford. She also ran a Jewish dating service for five years.

She was a member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue in New Bedford and was a past president of its Sisterhood. She sang with the Keynotes, a group that sang at various nursing homes. She ran a handicapped recreational club for seven years.

An animal activist, she proposed that a new animal shelter be built in Fairhaven and raised $23,000 for the new Fairhaven Animal Shelter, which was completed two months ago. She also proposed the saving of the old bur oak tree behind Wood Elementary School in Fairhaven, which is to be voted on soon. She had written articles for the New Bedford’s Senior Scope newspaper under the healing of “Nostalgia.”

Besides her husband she leaves a son, Leonard Jay Bromberg of Rumford; two daughters, Lynde Sue Friedman of Harrisville, R.I., and Jill Bromberg of New Bedford; a sister, Joyce Pollock of Lexington, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
