LAKE PLACID, Fla. – Helen Costello, formerly of Lewiston, died Friday, Jan. 2, at the Lake Placid Health Care Center.

Born in Lewiston, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary McCarthy Costello. She attended the Mary Brooks School of Pedagogies in Brookline, Mass., and received a Bachelors Degree from Gorham State Teachers College in 1957, and later was awarded a Masters in Education from the Farmington State Teachers College.

Miss Costello was employed for many years as a public school teacher, teaching kindergarten at several area schools, including Wallace and Dingley, retiring in 1968.

Survivors include two nieces, Suzanne LeBlanc of Bristol, Conn., and Mary Irwin of Bellevue, Neb.; three grandnephews; and two great-grandnephews.
