KINGFIELD – Educator and author Scott Noyes will give a free workshop on how parents can teach appropriate behavior through positive discipline from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Kingfield Elementary School.

The talk is sponsored by the Kingfield PTA.

Noyes will help parents learn skills and techniques for teaching children to behave well, instead of reinforcing inappropriate choices. The workshop includes the following topics: why not use punishment, humorous vignettes illustrating eight management techniques and a discussion of the challenges in implementing the philosophy.

A teacher at the university level who has published numerous books and articles, Noyes has been professionally working, playing and talking about children for more than 20 years.

He said, “Taking great care of children is possibly the most difficult endeavor known. With support, encouragement, respect, humor and a few positive methods, adults can succeed in this wonderful effort.”

“Noyes’ workshops are humorous, insightful and truly inspirational,” said Marcia White, Sugarloaf’s Child Services director. White has attended or hosted at least 25 of Noyes’ workshops since she first heard him speak at a Resort Child Care Conference about 15 years ago. She said, “Scott will provide you with positive methods to support you in taking great care of the children in your life. The tools/tips you will learn through his workshop will strengthen your parenting skills in ways that will enhance your child’s growth in self esteem, confidence and responsible behavior. This small investment in time will prove itself invaluable.”
