The new school will house up to 400 students.
SABATTUS – Sabattus school officials are looking for a name for their new school.
They hope you can help.
Union 44, which includes schools in Litchfield, Sabattus and Wales, is accepting suggestions for a name for its newest school.
“We need something that will distinguish it from Sabattus elementary,” said Superintendent Paul Malinski.
The new school will house up to 400 students in grades three through eight. The old elementary school will be reserved for kids in kindergarten through grade two.
The new $8.1 million school is under construction. It is expected to be finished in August.
But the new school needs a name. Officials want input from the community.
“‘Middle school’ really doesn’t fit because there are lower grades than that,” Malinski said. “‘Elementary school’ doesn’t fit because there are middle school grades.”
Suggestions can be sent to Malinski at P.O. Box 220, Sabattus, ME 04280 or to Principal Beverly Coursey at Sabattus Elementary School, 36 No Name Pond Road, Sabattus, ME 04280.
The school board will make the final decision. Officials hope to have the new school named by March.
