FARMINGTON – In anticipation of the extreme cold forecast for Thursday, Jan. 15, Mallett School has rescheduled its “Bookin’ at the Beach” event to Thursday, Jan. 22. Area children, preschool age and younger are invited to bring a beach towel and get out the sunglasses on Jan. 22 for “Bookin at the Beach,” one of three annual literacy events offered at Mallett School through the Reading Is Fundamental program. Parents and children are invited to visit the school between 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Jan. 22 and select a free book from dozens of titles written for young children. Tax assistance

WILTON – Wilton Free Public Library will offer AARP tax assistance for low income and elderly residents. Half-hour sessions will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays by appointment, starting Feb. 5. Call the library at 645-4831 to make an appointment or visit during business hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Grange supper

CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Grange will offer a public baked bean supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the grange hall. The menu includes beans, chop suey, casseroles, salads, biscuits and homemade pie. Adults, $6; children, $3.

King service

FARMINGTON – The Farmington Area Ecumenical Ministry will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Memorial Service starting at noon Monday, Jan. 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church on Route 2 East. Meeting set

TEMPLE – The Franklin County Firemen’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Temple Town Hall. County firefighters, guests and interested people are invited to attend. The regular business meeting will be followed by the guest speaker, refreshments and a drawing for door prizes. Representation from all departments is requested.
