GORHAM – Tiffany Jones scored a game-high 26 points to propel the University of Southern Maine to a 87-44 victory over Rhode Island College in women’s basketball action Tuesday.
The Huskies (12-1) bolted to a 44-17 halftime lead.
Megan Myles chipped in with 15 points for USM, while Shannon Kynoch added nine.
Bowdoin 60, Colby 43
WATERVILLE – Lora Trenkle finished with 18 points, including 8-for-8 from the foul line, and added seven rebounds and four assists in leading unbeaten and second-ranked Bowdoin to a 60-43 victory over Colby.
Eileen Flaherty added 14 points for the Polar Bears.
Wendy Bonner had nine points and six rebounds for the White Mules, while Caitlin Bourque added eight points and six boards.
Men
Bowdoin 77, Colby 55
WATERVILLE – Jon Farmer had nine points, nine rebounds and six assists as Bowdoin downed Colby, 77-55.
Mark Yakavonis led Bowdoin with 15 points.
Kyle Petrie had 14 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Bradley added 13 points and six assists, and T.J. McLeod finished with 10 points and four assists.
Michael Westbrooks led Colby with 17 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.
Patrick McGowan added 12 points, while Mike Rutherford had 11 points for the White Mules.
USM 71, R.I. College 68
GORHAM – Jason Levecque hauled in a rebound of a missed foul shot that could have tied the game with three seconds to play, then drained a pair of free throws as the University of Southern Maine withstood a ferocious comeback by Rhode Island College to post a 71-68 triumph.
Ryan Garland led the Huskies (6-8, 1-3) with 19 points, while Levecque finished the contest with 15.
Jesse McKinnell added 12 and Caleb Sayward contributed 10 for the Huskies.
The Anchormen (5-8, 2-1) were led by junior forward Jason Harris, who tallied a game-high 21 points.
