GRAY – A year-round home overlooking Little Sebago Lake burned down Wednesday, as firefighters battled the blaze amid subzero temperatures.
At the time of the fire, no one was inside the two-story house at 4 Oak Drive, owned by Daniel and Jeri Ann Fitzpatrick.
It was a total loss, said Fire Chief Jon Barton.
The fire was reported by a homeowner who lived across the lake. Within minutes, firefighters from Raymond, New Gloucester and Cumberland were called in to help.
The cold caused portable pumps, hand lines and nozzles to freeze. Meanwhile, firefighters were working in shifts to avoid exposure to the cold for too long.
“We had every cold weather problem you can have,” Barton said.
