BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – The Anchor Bar, birthplace of the Buffalo wing, may soon be spreading its wings.

Manager Ivan Toscani told The Buffalo News he is working with New York City-based investors to open full-scale franchises in cities such as New York, Las Vegas and Orlando, as well as numerous takeout-only stores in other cities.

“It’s not a definite yes. We’re very close, but you never know until you sign the papers,” Toscani said.

Teressa Bellissimo is credited with making the first batch of chicken wings – deep-fried and doused in hot sauce – to sate her son’s friends when they stopped into the family’s bar and restaurant one night in 1964.

Today, the Anchor Bar serves more than 1,000 pounds of wings a day.
