AUBURN – A 77-year-old Rumford man was hospitalized Wednesday following a collision on Center Street with a van.
Joseph G. Herbert was unresponsive, police said, after he drove his 2003 Toyota Camry into the back of a van. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was listed in stable condition Thursday night.
Auburn police said two other cars were stopped at the corner of North River Road and Center Street when Herbert drove up. He “never slowed or stopped upon approaching the intersection,” according to the accident report filed by police.
He struck a 1987 GMC van owned by Nadeau Refrigeration, which in turn hit a Ford sedan. The van was driven by Harold Guimond of Auburn. The sedan was driven by Kim Pound, also of Auburn. The two drivers were unhurt.
